Collective Mechanics™
Collective Mechanics™ is the signature clinical system taught at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy, designed to transform students into highly skilled, confident practitioners. Instead of collecting techniques, CAO students learn a structured, principles-based method for assessing the body, identifying the true source of dysfunction, and applying precise osteopathic treatment with purpose and consistency. This approach develops superior clinical reasoning and hands-on ability, allowing graduates to tackle complex cases with confidence. The result is a level of competency that distinguishes CAO-trained osteopaths and helps set them apart in the profession from day one.
Collective Mechanics™ was developed by Robert Johnston, founder and Principal of the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy, through decades of clinical practice, research, and teaching. Recognized internationally for his expertise, Mr. Johnston travels extensively to lecture and teach the Collective Mechanics™ system to Osteopathic Professionals around the world. He is the author of eight books on osteopathy, including two dedicated specifically to Collective Mechanics™, making students at the CAO the direct beneficiaries of a continually evolving system developed and refined by one of the profession’s leading educators.
The CAO campuses in Calgary and Hamilton are the only two schools that teach Collective Mechanics™ at the osteopathic training level for students becoming osteopaths.
